1/31/11 2011 3rd Quarter

Installation of the the three meteorological sites for the Wind forecast Improvement Project (WFIP) were completed. FRD receieved belated funding for the ET probe. Second phase of the dust transport research project was completed.

1/31/11 2011 2nd Quarter

FRD's support for the Japanese Earthquake. Preparations almost complete for the Wind forecast Improvement Project (WFIP). FRD has developed a preliminary conceptual design of transponder to be used with a small balloon payload.

4/21/11 2011 1st Quarter

Preparations are in progress for the Wind forecast Improvement Project (WFIP). Funding has ended for FRD support regarding the US Historical Climate Network- Modernization project.

1/31/11 2010 4th Quarter

Two ET probes returned from deployment off the Florida coast; Cheaperclipper balloons have been prepared for test launching; Big Southern Butte Fire Weather Research project completed.

10/19/10 2010 3rd Quarter

Two ET probes were deployed off the Florida coast; Four Cheaperclipper balloons were successfully launched from Georgia in December; FRD continues to help in the Big Southern Butte Fire Weather Research project.

7/27/10 2010 2nd Quarter

Two improved ET probes are planned for deployment during the upcoming hurricane season; Instrumentation deployment begins for the Big Southern Butte Fire Weather Research project begins deployment; Funding has been recieved and initial testing for the Cheaperclipper balloon begins.

4/26/10 2010 1st Quarter

Four ET probes planned for deployment during the upcoming hurricane season; FRD begins planning for a less expensive smart balloon referred to as the Cheaperclipper; EPA Near Roadway Sound Barrier Report generating lots of media attention.

1/19/10 2009 4th Quarter

Two ET probe field deployments ended successfully; WISDOM project ended and reports finallized; New web page to help quality control data for the new US Historical Climatological Network -Modernization stations was completed. EPA Near Roadway Sound Barrier Report published.

11/1/09 2009 3rd Quarter

Two ET probes are deployed for an extended period of time; WISDOM project begins. FRD begins Quality Control of the new US Historical Climatological Network -Modernization stations

8/5/09 2009 2nd Quarter

Upgraded ET probe undergoing testing; Planning continues on the WISDOM project. The NOAA HYSPLIT model upgrades are continuing and going well.

5/5/09 2009 1st Quarter

Roadside Sound Barrier Tracer Study 2008 completed ARL review and is ready for publication; X-6 Low cost tracer detector successfully tested during the Roadside Tracer Study; ET upgrades have begun; The NOAA HYSPLIT model upgrades are continuing and going well.

2/6/09 2008 4th Quarter

EPA - Near Roadway Tracer Study finished in October, preliminary results are completed; FRD passed NRC audit; HYSPLIT, the new transport and dispersion model, planning has begun.

10/30/08 2008 3rd Quarter

Preparations ready for the upcoming EPA - Near Roadway Tracer Study in October; New INL Weather Hazard Alert System began; Progress made on implementing AERMOD dispersion model

7/29/08 2008 2nd Quarter

FRD awarded 2007 NOAA Bronze Medal for excellence in research; Fast response tracer analyzer upgrades nearly complete; EPA - Near Roadway Tracer Study preparations beginning

5/1/08 2008 1st Quarter

Final testing of bag cleaning for the 3-PFT method was completed and is ready for actual experimental work; Work continues on the new low cost tracer detector; FRD is working with ASMD and EPA on conducting a roadway study later this year; New INL weather hazards list and procedures are being generated to alert INL staff of approaching hazardous weather.

1/24/08 2007 4th Quarter

Randy Johnson was awarded the U.S. Department of Commerce 2007 Silver Award; FRD became the first NOAA entity to become a StormReady Supporter; The new PFT analysis method is ready for actual deployment and experimental work;
